Matt Damon is said to have worn a luxury Tag Heuer watch in the Bourne trilogy of films.

It has been revealed that in the Bourne trilogy, Matt Damon – as Jason Bourne – wore a Tag Heuer Link Chronograph luxury watch.

According to Watch ID, the Tag Heuer watch enjoys plenty of screentime in the Bourne Identity and the Bourne Supremacy – and a little less in the Bourne Ultimatum.

Damon is said to wear the same watch in real life too, having been spotted with the Link Chronograph around his wrist on many occasions.

Since it was released in 2001 there have been several updates to the timepiece – particularly relating to its dial and bezel, which can make finding the earlier editions, such as that in the films, difficult, the website states.

Features of the Tag Heuer Link Chronograph include a large black dial and bold hour numbers at three, nine and 12 o’clock.

Tag Heuer recently extended its partnership with Formula 1 team McLaren-Mercedes and is gearing up for its 25th year involved with the sport.ADNFCR-2664-ID-19539714-ADNFCR

The much anticipated event of Baselworld 2009 brought with itself some of the most delightful timepieces of our generation, with impressive improvements in terms of technical performance and with interesting design features meant to show that in this industry of watch manufacturing progress is nothing without innovation.

The famous brand TAG Heuer has brought its contribution with the presentation of two of its most progressive watches, one dedicated to the famous Gulf Oil, while the other being especially designed to meet the requirements of women worldwide. TAG Heuer is one of those brands unafraid to take chances and to explore new and different perspectives, in order to come up with concepts that would actually revolutionize the techniques of TAG Heuer watch manufacturing and the main functions of the traditional timekeeping instruments.

This year, in 2009, the Baselworld event received its guests with some watches that are to be spoken of for some while in 2009 and in the following years, as the timepieces presented this year are samples of excellence, innovation and technical proficiency.

TAG Heuer’s one special contribution was the new TAG Heuer Monaco Calibre 12 Chronograph Gulf Limited Edition Watch, a watch designed to celebrate the fruitful partnership between TAG Heuer and Gulf Oil. Two names reunited could only attract greatness and the new watch presented by TAG Heuer is heading the exact concept, of greatness and of landmark in watch manufacturing. It was decided by the high representatives from TAG Heuer that the new Monaco Calibre 12 Chronograph Gulf Limited Edition Watch would be distributed in a limited edition of 5000 timepieces, a relatively small numbered compared to the other TAG Heuer’s watch collections. This collection was definitely regarded as a hit not only at Baselworld 2009, but on the watch market as well.

With a 39 mm in diameter case made of stainless steel, the new TAG Heuer Monaco Calibre 12 Chronograph Gulf Limited Edition Watch approaches a sporty and modern appearance. The rectangular shape of the watch is specific to most of the TAG Heuer’s watches and hints to a certain level of masculinity and seriousness. Covered in sapphire crystal, both the top and the case-back, this new watch provides the best mechanism visibility, while making sure that the inner workings of the watch are safely guard.

The dial has a vintage effect as it uses as main inspiration the old model of Porsche Gulf 917K, displaying an orange and blue stripe on the grey dial. The date window is located at the 6 o’clock position, the traditional function of hour, minute and second in the middle of the dial and two other sub-dials, one indicating the small-seconds counter, while the other the minute counter. The watch is equipped with the TAG Heuer‘s exclusively designed Calibre 12 Automatic Chronograph Movement and is available on a standard black alligator leather strap, to achieve that casual sporty style.

Luxury watch manufacturer Tag Heuer’s redesign of its classic Silverstone Chronograph model is “a faithful reproduction of the vintage original” made in 1974, according to designer goods .

Tag Heuer recently announced the iconic piece would be released again as part of its 150th anniversary celebrations, albeit as a limited edition, 35 years after it transformed the Tag Heuer watch industry.

Based on the Silverstone racing circuit in Northamptonshire, the timepiece features chronograph hour and minute counters and a perforated leather strap based on the gloves worn by Formula 1 drivers.

Dial options on the model come in a “pleasing” dark blue or brown which “successfully recall” the design of the 1974 Tag Heuer watch, says the website.

Indeed, the only notable difference between the historic and modern-day versions is the layout of some of the counters.

For example, on the 2009 design the chronograph minute display is on the left and a continuous second subdial on the right.

Tag Heuer’s states that it is the only in the world to offer wrist watches which are accurate to one-tenth, one-hundredth and one-thousandth of a second.ADNFCR-2664-ID-19517989-ADNFCR

Maria Sharapova: Court Fashion, TAG Heuer Watches

The January/February Edition of Harpers Bazaar Australia Maria Sharapova, the tennis prodigy and Tag Heuer ambassador is featured in talk about on and off the court fashion and her range of TAG Heuer sunglasses.

Each tournament is a good deal for the player to earn money not only on his or her victory, but also on advertising famous sport, jewelry as well as fashion accessories and court fashion brands.

The impossibly long-legged 22-year-old, the highest paid female star in sports history ($26 million) Maria Sharapova is not the exception. Russian girl pays a greater attention to the sport dresses she is to play in. That is why Maria is absolutely serious about Australian Open sport wearing this January.

“I pretty much know what I’ll be wearing (on court) and what color, a year in advance because the clothes have to go to retail (at the same time).” She says of the tennis dresses she helps Nike designers create and the match-friendly Tiffany & Co. earring she wears for each Grand Slam tournament.

All Maria Sharapova endorsement deals with the likes of TAG Heuer, Tiffany & Co. and Cole Haan involve her in the design of brands wares. And her models really work, as Maria sincerely believes that the feeling of comfort on the court and knowing that you look good and feel good in what you wear really makes you attack.

Maria Sharapova and Tag Heuer“When I wake up in the morning, my first priority is tennis, but the fact that I have the opportunity to create things such as my tennis dresses and TAG Heuer sunglasses is fun and I’m certainly no afraid to fail at it.”

The sunglasses for TAG Heuer watches  are one of Maria’s most hands-on design projects. “It gave me the opportunity to be creative and work with some really talented people,” she says. “We did two pairs – one is more casual, the kind you could wear every day, the other is a little bit more sophisticated.

TAG Heuer Caliber 1887: A New In-House Chronograph Movement
Swiss watchmaker TAG Heuer, long known for its close association with sports timing technology, has announced a new in-house manufactured chronograph movement as part of its 150th anniversary celebration. The movement, which features a number of interesting technical details and operates via a traditional column wheel, carries the designation of Caliber 1887. This number is not random; it references the year in which the company–at that time known simply as Heuer–pioneered an oscillating pinion which would prove revolutionary to the construction of chronograph mechanisms in general.

According to a press statement from Jean-Christophe Babin, CEO of TAG Heuer, the Caliber 1887 and its process of conceptualization to production has been a project nearly four years in the making. Along the way, over 20 million Swiss Francs have been spent, with 45 employment positions created across the brand’s various manufacturing facilities. The bridges, mainplate and other key movement parts are manufactured in TAG Heuer’s Cornol site by ultra-modern CNC machines. Complete movements are assembled in a dust-free environment in TAG Heuer’s newest manufacturing wing in La Chaux-de-Fonds, again using the benefits of the most modern technology to significantly automate the process. The resulting product promises to set an ideal balance between significant production levels, functional reliability, and superior horological quality.

The TAG Heuer Caliber 1887 chronograph movement is self-winding, and recharges its mainspring barrel via a distinctly skeletonized centrally mounted rotor; the design and decoration of this latter component echoes the dialwork of many of the latest models in TAG Heuer’s Carrera timepiece collection. Fully wound, the mechanism will drive the TAG Heuer watch for 40-50 hours, the lower figure being applicable if the chronograph mechanism is allowed to run continuously. A bridge with distinctive cutaway sections reveals the most important and technically fascinating parts of the mechanism, including the distinctive double lever and a visually dominant blued column wheel which precisely controls the start, stop and return to zero sequences. The glucydur balance wheel pulsates to and fro 28,800 times per hour and features an eccentric adjustment screw that enables the TAG Heuer watchmakers to precisely adjust the rate average to a tolerance of -4/+4 seconds per day. Dimensionally, the Caliber 1887 movement stands 7.1mm in height and has a diameter of 29.3 millimeters.

TAG Heuer has emphasized that while the Caliber 1887 will enrich the current palette of TAG Heuer in-house movements, it won’t eliminate the brand’s use of proven calibers from other manufacturers, including Zenith watch, ETA, and Dubois-Depraz. The house is also forthright in pointing out that outside suppliers will play a small but important role in the makeup of the Caliber 1887 movement itself, most notably in such escapement components as the balance wheel and hairspring.

TAG Heuer Marks 150th Anniversary with New Silverstone Chronograph

To mark the brand’s 150th anniversary in 2010, TAG Heuer will introduce the anniversary re-edition of its Silverstone Chronograph that highlights the list of the most coveted collector’s TAG Heuer watches.

The initial Silverstone chronograph joined the world of watchmaking in 1974. The timepiece immediately caught attention by its cushion cut-shaped case. The shape of the case reflects a nice blend of square and round inspired by the curvature of the Silverstone Circuit, a renowned English racing track that suggested the name of the watch.

The design of the TAG Heuer chronograph watch was also based on the distinctive square case of the preceding model – the Monaco. Before the introduction of the Monaco, watchmakers could not develop perfectly water-resistant square or barrel-shaped cases and introduced only timepieces with round dials. TAG Heuer broke the ice, having elaborated a patented water-proofing system and the Monaco’s clean, geometric shape.

The TAG Heuer design team made the angles of the Monaco watch softer to come up with the shape of the Silverstone. Both the initial Monaco and Silverstone were equipped with the Chronomatic Calibre 11, the revolutionary movement that represented the first-ever self-winding automatic chronograph with micro rotor. The movement guaranteed utmost precision corresponding to the strictest standards of professional chronometer instruments.

Before the development of the Calibre 11, chronograph watches featured the crown positioned at 3 o’clock for easy accessibility as it was necessary to constantly hand-wind them for accurate timekeeping. The Calibre 11 allowed TAG Heuer designers to position the crown of the Monaco and Silverstone watches at 9 o’clock.

The latest evolution of the TAG Heuer Silverstone watch accommodates an updated version of the Calibre 11, incorporating Dubois-Depraz module.

The TAG Heuer watch demonstrates the brand’s original Heuer logo on the dial. The dial, created in a rich blue or brown, also features two silver counters at 3 and 9 o’clock, as well as a hand-applied date window at 6 o’clock. You will notice stainless steel pushbuttons at 2 and 4 o’clock. The dial is protected by a curved, sapphire crystal with double anti-reflective treatment.

The TAG Heuer Silverstone watch is coupled with a perforated alligator leather strap in the dial-matching color. The timepiece will be available in a limited edition of 1,500 pieces per color.  it is expected to be offered for the retail price of about 6,500 dollars.

Swiss watchmaker TAG Heuer celebrated its 150th anniversary in Woking, England with partners McLaren, where it launched a new coffee table book – TAG Heuer: 150 Years by Editions Assouline.

Brand ambassador and former Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton presided over the ceremony, with TAG Heuer Honorary Chairman Jack Heuer, TAG Heuer CEO Jean-Christophe Babin, Vodafone McLaren Mercedes Team Principal Martin Whitmarsh and McLaren Automotive Chairman Ron Dennis.

It was also the occasion of the 25th anniversary of TAG Heuer’s partnership with McLaren in F1. Of course, the true stars of the event were TAG Heuer s two latest creations, the Silverstone, a “one-off” re-edition of one of an iconic 1974 timekeeper from the brand’s past, and Calibre 1887, a column wheel chronograph movement made entirely in-house.

Calibre 1887 marks a significant milestone for the brand in the 21st century and will no doubt leave collectors and the brand’s many fans trembling with anticipation.

TAG Heuer signs Leonardo DiCaprio as Brand AmbassadorJanuary 29, 2009 – TAG Heuer introduced actor and environmental activist Leonardo DiCaprio as its newest ambassador. DiCaprio replaces Brad Pitt, whose six-year contract ended last month.

The three-year agreement is a unique one for TAG Heuer and DiCaprio, with the royalties generated from the deal going to support the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) and Green Cross International. In addition, a multi-million dollar commitment from Mr. DiCaprio will go to support environmental charities.

As global ambassador for TAG Heuer watch, DiCaprio will be promoting several of TAG Heuer’s products, including the brand’s 43-millimeter Carrera Day-Date chronograph, a brand spokeswoman said. DiCaprio is the latest star to join TAG Heuer’s “What Are You Made Of” advertising campaign, for which other brand representatives include Uma Thurman and Tiger Woods.

While the brand does not disclose contract details, the royalties generated on select TAG Heuer products, as well as a portion of DiCaprio’s own fees, will be donated to support a major environmental organization, a brand spokeswoman said.

The 34-year-old award-winning actor has a long history of activism on behalf of environmental issues. The Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, established in 1998, has actively fostered awareness of environmental issues by partnering with such organizations as the Natural Resources Defense Council, where DiCaprio is on the board of trustees; Global Green USA, where he serves as a board member; and the International Fund For Animal Welfare, where he is on the honorary board of directors, according to the foundation’s Web site.

Leonardo DiCaprio is far more than an actor,” said Jean-Christophe Babin, CEO and president of TAG Heuer watch. “He is a man who wants to change the planet and improve the plight of children in need. He is contributing his skills and wealth to a better, smarter world.”
TAG Heuer is proud to announce Leonardo DiCaprio as its ambassador because they share the same relentless drive to push innovation and exceed expectations, especially their own.
