Franck Muller, being a true “Master of Complications”, has made a dream come true –a wristwatch packed with the record number of complications!

The timepiece, built from 1,483 components, boasts 36 complications and 25 of them are visible. The 1000-year calendar Franck Muller watch undoubtedly deserves a record price of 2.7 million dollars!

The Master Watchmakers of Genthod faced a remarkable challenge – to create a wristwatch to feature all presently-known horological complications. They used the Aeternitas movement as a base, and the Mega 4 with its grand and small Westminster chime striking-work, the only one available with a tourbillon displayed on the dial.

The watchmakers added a minute repeater, a mono-pushpiece split-seconds chronograph, a perpetual calendar secular, and an equation of time varying just by 6.8 seconds per lunar month, implying one day every thousand years!

The Franck Muller Aeternitas Mega 4, the most complex wristwatch ever created, is an elegantly designed timepiece in the highly-respected traditions of the old cadraturiers (the mechanisms positioned under the dial) of the Vallee de Joux, Switzerland.

Initially, the Master Watchmakers incorporated the Mega into the Aeternitas project. The basis was represented by an automatic Tourbillon, with two motors. They hollowed out the plate on the dial side to hold the striking mechanism.

If compared to the Aeternitas versions, the four Aeternitas Mega versions are 0.2mm thick to accommodate the striking mechanism of the “Chime of Westminster”. The Mega is highly appreciated due to its “Grande Sonnerie” Chime of Westminster striking mechanism that sounds on the hours and quarter hours. The “Petite Sonnerie” version does not strike on the hour, meaning it only sounds on the quarter hours.

The large and small striking mechanisms are programmed via simply pressing a waterproof push-button found at 10.30 on the case. The push-button programmable function allows to stop the movement of the striking mechanism. The minute repeater allows to activate the “Chime of Westminster” any time it is required, providing the full strike of the hours, the Westminster quarters and the minutes.

The “Grand Sonnerie” is the only timepiece, with the Tourbillon seen on the dial side, implying the limited space for the “Grand Sonnerie” mechanism and thus the highly complicated design.

The nicely chiselled and decorated pieces of the mechanism may be admired via a sapphire crystal case back.

The Franck Muller Aeternitas Mega 4, a true masterpiece of complications and know-how, has been elaborated and manufactured by the Franck Muller group, demonstrating their outstanding skills and ability in the Art of Watchmaking.

The first piece of the exceptional Franck Muller watch was delivered to an American collector at a special ceremony held in Monaco last November; the second Aeternitas Mega 4 is expected to be available in the nearest future.

the Master of Complications has scheduled two WPHH – World Presentation of Haute Horlogerie – exhibitions to be organized at its Watchland site in Genthod on 17-23 January and 17-27 March. The visitors (about 5,000 visitors and 600 journalists) will be expected from 9.00 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Franck Muller group will provide a comprehensive view of its seven brands: Franck Muller, Pierre Kunz, ECW, Rodolphe Montres & Bijoux, Barthelay, Backes & Strauss and Martin Braun.

The new Franck Muller collections will be presented in specially built pavilions to feature nicely arranged stands, elegant design and contemporary decor.

The Franck Muller Long Island Master Banker watch is a luxurious object of great appeal.  Embodying the uncompromising approach to watchmaking that has ensconced Frank Muller among the most illustrious names in haute horlogerie, this elegant rectangular timepiece is also a creation of great pragmatism: it can keep track of three time zones simultaneously, giving world travelers a truly worthy companion.

The gently curved platinum or 18-karat gold case of this Franck Muller Master Banker timepiece draws its inspiration from the 1920’s–a decade in which flamboyance and stylish elegance made their mark on everything from architecture to the objects used in everyday life.  The sublime contours of the Long Island case, enhanced by a lustrous polish, match the curvature of the wrist, enhancing comfort.  Available in white or black variations, the dial displays a distinctive sun guilloche pattern, and stately numerals whose straight and arched design evokes classicism moderated by an element of fantasy.  There is no ambiguity in the information presented: the two subdials present identical displays for the dual timezones both of which may be set independently of the primary time display.  As with the date function, each of the timezones may be swiftly adjusted via the winding crown–a practical innovation by Franck Muller which is protected by a patent.

The Franck Muller Long Island Master Banker watch is animated by a manually wound mechanical movement.  Highly skilled watchmakers lavish each of these mechanical gems with their attentive care, decorating the metal surfaces with the traditional finishes that are a hallmark of haute de gamme.  Circular graining adorns the plate, and Cotes de Geneve patterns are applied to the bridges.  The edges of metal parts are patiently rounded, using the traditional technique of anglage, and screws display a fine polish.

A meticulously crafted strap in hand-sewn alligator is joined to the screwed strap lugs of the Franck Muller Long Island watch case; a buckle in platinum or 18-karat gold keeps the watch connected securely to the wrist.  A curved sapphire crystal ensures flawless legibility of the artistic dial, while offering the best possible protection from scratches.

Franck Muller Cintree Curvex Seconde Deloyale Watch

The Franck Muller Cintree Curvex Seconde Deloyale watch is a brilliant example of horological engineering and luxurious style.  Within the sensually curved form of the white gold or platinum Cintree Curvex case–a virtual signature of Franck Muller–resides a mechanical movement that animates a calendar function, in addition to a unique “disloyal” seconds complication that marks off passing seconds one precise jump at a time.  This distinctive feature, inspired by a horological innovation of the 19th century, may fool the eye of the layperson into thinking a quartz-controlled caliber lies beneath the dial; in fact, however, the precise advances of the central seconds hand is governed by a column wheel in the manner of the world’s finest traditional chronographs.

Classical yet undeniably dashing, the Cintree Curvex case invites joy in wearing, no matter what manner of attire it accompanies.  The striking dial of the Franck Muller Seconde Deloyale watch harmonizes perfectly with the case, offering superb attention to detail and clarity of purpose.  Hours and minutes appear in the off-centered subdial at 12 o’clock while continuous small seconds are read at 6 o’clock.  Two circular scales, each with its own dedicated hand, indicate the month and the date; both of these functions may be quickly advanced via the crown.  A red arrow tip distinguishes the disloyal center seconds hand, which is activated or stopped at any time by a gentle press on the button which is integrated into the winding crown.

The Franck Muller Cintree Curvex Seconde Deloyale is powered by a self-winding 32-jewel movement, whose 5.75mm overall height includes the specialized complication module for the calendar and disloyal second function.  The glucydur balance completes 28,800 semi-oscillations each hour, and power reserve is 40 hours.  In keeping with the tradition of fine watchmaking, the artisans of the Franck Muller atelier in Genthod decorate the plates with circular graining, and bridges with Cotes de Geneve patterns; edges of parts are gently chamfered, so that no abrupt edges remain.

Assuring an elegant and secure fit of the Cintree Curvex Seconde Deloyale watch is a hand-sewn alligator strap and a buckle in 18-karat gold or platinum.  The crystal, uniquely cambered to fit the Cintree Curvex case, is in sapphire crystal.
