The Omega freshly-redesigned Constellation collection welcomes a new star – the Constellation Baguette.

The unique and luxurious Omega Constellation Baguette watch produces a powerful impression – the dial of the lady’s watch displays a one-of-a-kind supernova structure emanating from the diamond Constellation star presented on a mother-of-pearl background at 6 o’clock. The dazzling watch sparkles with 459 Top Wesselton diamonds, with a total weight of about 30 carats.

The dial boasts 146 baguette and trapeze diamonds that are set using a sophisticated “invisible” mounting technique, implying you will see no trace of the 18K white gold used for the watch’s case between the diamonds.

The Omega Constellation Baguette watch is not simply a breathtaking diamond timepiece for ladies – it accommodates the OMEGA Calibre 8421, a Co-Axial escapement automatic movement. The groundbreaking technology of the brand was initially appeared in 1999, having greatly improved the way fine mechanical timepieces are created.

The movement incorporates the Co-Axial escapement reducing the amount of sliding friction in the watch, thus eliminating the need for lubrication and giving an advantage of longer service intervals and improved timekeeping precision. The Si 14 silicon balance spring strengthens shock-resistance, as well as resistance to the effects of outside disturbances.

The Omega master jewelers have cut every one of the watch’s 459 diamonds specifically for the timepiece, so every stone is unique and, if necessary, the replacement process will require much time. Any new gem will have to be custom-prepared to match the color, clarity, cut and carat size of the diamonds it is surrounded by.

The Omega Constellation Baguette watch,  is the most elegant and precious members of the Constellation collection, representing a fine union of refined design and superior watchmaking.

ITV are hoping the use of an Omega watch in the most recent James Bond film can be repeated across its portfolio of shows.

The strong presence of Omega watches in a James Bond film has been cited by one website as an example of product placement, which ITV hopes to introduce to some of its flagship programmes.

Product placement involves brands paying for their goods to be given a prominent position in television shows and films, explains This Is Money.

Omega invested in this for the most recent 007 movie – Quantum of Solace – in which Daniel Craig showed off a model from the luxury Swiss designer.

ITV says that featuring products – such as luxury watches – in Coronation Street, the X Factor and others would add realism and allow the corporation to increase revenue, the website reports.

Consumer group Which? and the Church of England have both declared they are against the proposal, according to the online publication.

Quantum of Solace was the 22nd James Bond film and the second featuring Daniel Craig as the fictional MI6 agent.ADNFCR-2664-ID-19560369-ADNFCR

Omega Constellation Baguette Watch Dazzles With 459 Invisible Set Diamonds
Swiss watchmaker Omega has unveiled its most extravagant Constellation watch yet, in a piece unique creation that unifies more than 30 carats of baguette and trapeze-cut diamonds across a case and bracelet of 18-karat white gold. But this timepiece, which Omega  watch calls the Constellation Baguette, is notable for more than just the sheer radiance of its 459 diamonds; each stone has been exactly matched to its every neighbor, a painstaking task necessitated by the beautiful and exceptionally difficult invisible setting technique which creates the appearance that no metal joins the stones together. Perhaps most striking is the white gold dial of this splendid Constellation timepiece. Here, the sparkling field of baguette diamonds creates the impression of a supernova against which the star symbol of the Omega Constellation collection (in diamonds, naturally) appears in glorious relief within an inset mother of pearl subdial.

As a point of reference for the difficulty involved in creating the Constellation Baguette watch, Omega watches can stock no standard parts for the case or bracelet, nor any diamonds; in a hypothetical situation where, for example, a link should be added or a diamond requires replacement or exchange, the owner of this exceptional creation would have to exercise patience. To accomplish the painstaking task, master gemologists would need to obtain and precisely set only those very specific gemstones that exactly mirror the size, cut, clarity and color of adjacent diamonds on the watch. The complexity of the task would multiply considerably if numerous stones were involved in such a project.

The Omega Constellation Baguette watch is animated by one of Omega’s acclaimed in-house automatic movements. Omega’s Caliber 8421 presents a number of fascinating elements that make for a mechanism of real horological pedigree. These features include a balance bridge for optimum support of the balance wheel, a hairspring in SI 14 silicon which resists magnetism and shock, and the revolutionary Omega Co-Axial Escapement–a true innovation in mechanical watchmaking which greatly reduces friction and promotes long-term operation and precision. The caliber is a COSC-certified chronometer, having passed fifteen days of precision tests at one of the official Swiss chronometer control offices.

Omega Honors Great Winter Olympic Moments With Artistic Posters
Swiss watchmaker Omega has, since 1932, made the Olympic Games a strong part of its horological heritage. And in the years since, the house’s role as official timekeeper has given it opportunities to mark the passage of many of the most memorable Olympic moments. It is a trove of such historic events which give life to a series of three new Omega watch advertisements dubbed “Great Moments in Time”. These colorful and poignant images are set to roll out just in time for the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, with one honoring this anticipated event specifically.

The electrifying gold medal hockey game between the United States and the former USSR which led to a stunning 4-3 U.S. victory and a moment forever known as the “miracle on ice” is the basis for the poster commemorating the 1980 Olympic Games in Lake Placid; against an icy background, Soviet and American figures emblazoned with their flags stand in a face-off, to the right of which is a description of the historic game. The legendary ice dancing team of Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean who won Olympic gold with perfect 6.0 marks at the Sarajevo Games on Valentines Day 1984 form the image for a poster whose colors and design exude passion and romance; here, a rich red background showcases the figures of the skaters in white with interconnected hearts symbolizing a moment of perfect harmony. The third poster marks 2010 as a year in which the Olympic Games return to Canada. A tribute to youthful endeavor, progress and speed, it presents a bobsled team speeding along in a blur of brilliant colors. These colors could be said to represent the many nations who will soon appear together in a spectacle of sportsmanship that is to be enjoyed and closely watched by citizens from around the globe.

As with the posters dedicated to the 1980 and 1984 Games, this latter image also presents the distinctive symbol of the 2010 Vancouver Games, along with the limited edition Omega Seamaster Professional 300m Diver Vancouver 2010 watch. This stainless steel timepiece will be produced in an edition of 2,010 pieces and showcases a Canada-themed red anodized bezel insert and white dial. It also features a central sweep seconds hand with a counterpoise bearing the four intertwined Olympic rings.

Omega Legendary Co-Axial Escapement

The Omega legendary Co-Axial escapement joined the world of watchmaking in 1999. The groundbreaking technology was invented by the famous watchmaker George Daniels. It was destined to become the first practical mechanical watch escapement that followed the Swiss lever escapement invented more than 150 years ago.

The escapement is necessary for maintaining the balance oscillations, representing the regulating organ of a timepiece. Its mechanical efficiency must be as high as possible, implying it must absorb as little energy as possible while performing its functions. Once considered to be the most efficient, the lever escapement is able to pass on just 30 percent of the received energy. The rest of the energy is lost because of the inertia of the masses put in motion, friction and shocks.

But modern watchmaking re-examined the matter and the Co-Axial escapement was born. The Co-Axial escapement reduces friction and uses available energy in a more efficient way, thus providing more stability of the precision timekeeping for a considerably longer period of time. As a result, the owner of a mechanical watch equipped with a Co-Axial escapement movement has the watch served less frequently. The Co-Axial needs less oil, implying fewer disturbances caused by lubrication in an escapement.

Ten years ago, the mechanically complex Co-Axial escapement was meant only for high-end watches. Nowadays, all Omega mechanical watches are fitted with this technology. It was presented in the Calibre 2500, with more refinements made over time. The Omega Co-Axial escapement movement incorporated such complications as a chronograph in 2003, an annual calendar in 2008 and a GMT chronograph in 2009.

In 2007, Omega presented the in-house Co-Axial 8500 Calibre – the brand joined back the circle of manufactures. In 2008, Omega unveiled a model developed specially for smaller watches – it was fitted into the Seamaster Aqua Terra collection created for women. The lady’s watches were also destined to become the first to boast an extra innovation – the Si 14 silicon balance spring to offer even more enhanced accuracy.

The 10th anniversary of the Omega Co-Axial escapement is marked by a special worldwide campaign, following the successful “Watchmakers Wanted“, featuring George Clooney wearing a white lab coat and a loupe.

The new Omega campaign demonstrates an impressive group of the brand’s ambassadors, including Buzz Aldrin, Cindy Crawford, George Clooney, Sergio Garcia, Michael Phelps, Nicole Kidman, Michael Schumacher and Zhang Ziyi –holding or wearing a loupe. Each advert highlights a particular aspect of the Co-Axial escapement.

Buzz Aldrin, the first astronaut who wore an Omega legendary Speedmaster watch on the moon, is featured along with the slogan, “It’s not rocket science. But it’s close.”

Formula 1 world champion Michael Schumacher tells us that “Faster isn’t always better,” a slogan meant to reflect the movement’s solidity and consistently utmost performance.

Swimmer Michael Phelps is associated with split-seconds timekeeping, while supermodel Cindy Crawford is a symbol of fashion.

With the Co-Axial escapement representing a turning point for the Omega Company, the new campaign emphasizes the quality of Omega’s Co-Axial movements in a truly innovative and eye-catching way.

Omega De Ville 4-Counters Co-Axial Chronograph Watch
Swiss watchmaker Omega has plans to enrich its elegant De Ville timepiece collection with a new model, just in time for Valentine’s Day 2010. This timepiece stands out with a visually compelling four-counter chronograph readout that stretches horizontally across the dark metallic grey dial. While it is sure to provoke comparisons with the limited edition Speedmaster Chronograph 5-Counter watch that Omega debuted during the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, the De Ville 4-Counters Co-Axial Chronograph certainly stands on its own merits. This anticipated De Ville chronograph effectively merges appealing classical design with the watchmaking substance that collectors and fans of fine mechanical timepieces demand.

One of the first things one perceives about the luxury watch Omega De Ville 4-Counters Co-Axial Chronograph watch, is the extent to which finely brushed stainless steel plays in its construction. This understated material is used for almost every surface of the complex 41 mm case and concave bezel, as well as the intricate bracelet. The latter, however, does feature four slender stainless steel links that showcase a brilliant high polish–a decidedly elegant touch which produces a nearly perfect degree of dressy refinement. Equally attractive is the complex dial: the section which contains the four subdials is recessed below the primary surface, indices and hands are exactingly beveled to capture light, and sparing accents of red emphasize sportiness as well as sophistication. Two tastefully located windows, one below the applied Omega watches logo and the other at 6 o’clock, showcase the day of the week and date, respectively. The chronograph mechanism records elapsed minutes, hours, and even days (up to 7), as well as continuously running small seconds; the latter is clearly demarcated from the other chronograph functions by a skeletonized dagger-shaped hand.

Secure beneath the stainless steel caseback of the De Ville 4-Counters watch is the self-winding Omega Calibre 3890. This mechanical movement presents a number of horologically desirable elements. Not only does it showcase the now-famous Omega Co-Axial Escapement–a revolutionary invention which minimizes friction, promotes long-term precision, and extends intervals between services–it also incorporates a freely sprung balance to optimize isochronism and resistance to shocks. Power reserve of the spring barrel is a highly respectable 52 hours, and the rapid balance beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour enables the chronograph to record elapsed time to the nearest 1/8th second. Decorative refinements of the Omega 3890 include Cotes de Geneve patterns on the bridges and central winding mass, as well as circular graining on the mainplate.
The Omega De Ville 4-Counters Co-Axial Chronograph watch is water resistant to 100 meters, and features a subtly curved crystal manufactured from scratch-resistant sapphire. The triple-folding clasp on the stainless steel bracelet displays the world famous Omega symbol in 18-karat red gold.
