A. Lange & Sohne Academy Initiates Expert Course for Authorized Retailers As makers of some of the world’s finest high luxury timepieces, A. Lange & Sohne has a keen understanding that knowledgeable representatives are the best ambassadors of its brand values. Nearly three years ago, A. Lange & Sohne initiated its “Akademie”, with the objective of enabling authorized Lange dealers to get intensive, in-house education on the fine points behind the watches and their creation. To round out this training, and provide a true immersion in the techniques and culture of Saxon haute horlogerie, the manufacture has initiated an Expert Course.

The Lange Expert Course is for trainees who have already completed two introductory courses at the Academy and then gone back to their retail environment to educate their colleagues, in turn. A. Lange & Sohne watchmakers spend extensive “hands on” time with their pupils during the Expert Course, with the goal of getting each person deep into the heart of specialized horological skills. Lange decorative techniques such as the application of Glashutte ribbing patterns, engraving and polishing are all taught. However, students do far more than just watch–after a time in observation, they get to try their own hand at all of the same skills. The course culminates in each student fully assembling a manual wind mechanical movement under the patient guidance of their master watchmaker instructor.

Participants in the Lange Academy who complete the Expert Course and its final comprehensive written exam get to take away more than just a piece of paper. Experts depart proudly with a unique token of their experience–a finely framed certificate complete with the same three-quarter movement plate and balance cock that they spent time decorating during the course. Already, A. Lange & Sohne has graduated “Experts” from retailers in both Italy and Germany, with more courses planned through 2010. The next soon-to-be Lange Experts will come from across the globe to include other regions of Europe, Japan, the United States, and Southeast Asia.

The horological company Linde Werdelin has established a strong foothold in the watch market by manufacturing its high-precision sports timepieces and clip-on instruments. Now, the brand’s Oktopus family heartily welcomes a new member, named Oktopus Moonphase complication.

A clever blend of unequalled mastery and appealing design, the new Linde Werdelin watch is equipped with a Frederic Piguet calibre 1150 movement and a moon-phase complication, developed and produced by Danish-born Svend Andersen. Superb as it is, the sophisticated watch proudly presents a highly realistic replication of the moon phases, attainable by virtue of luminous discs, as well as provides a countdown to the next half or full moon.

The novel Oktopus Moonphase boasts a time-tested exterior, reinterpreted, however, in a modern way. The watch’s undeniable highlight is definitely its original display of seven phases of the moon from new to half and full. Entirely manufactured from SuperLuminova, which intensifies the moon-phase effect, the discs are located along 4 and 8 o’clock to ensure maximum night-time readability of the dial.

The moon-phase complication is built on the date function of the Piguet movement, showing a countdown to the next full moon. According to Morten Linde, a creative director and co-founder of the Linde Werdelin, this innovation testifies to the brand’s progress in uncomplicated complexity.

In terms of case dimensions the novelty from Linde Werdelin is similar to other Oktopus watches, measuring 46mm x 49mm x 14mm, width, length and height indicated respectively. The watch case is outfitted with a rose gold unidirectional turning bezel with 10 minute markings, as well as a SuperLuminova-applied marker, positioned at 12 o’clock.

The bezel securely holds a 3.8mm anti-glare sapphire crystal. It serves to protect a black matt dial, completed with Arabic numerals and rose gold-finished applied indexes, coated with a SuperLuminova compound. Travelling over them are rose gold-plated, diamond cut rhodium-finished hands, also tipped with a coat of SuperLuminova.

The Oktopus Moonphase complication watch is fitted with a sapphire crystal case-back, which enables the watch owner to admire the artfully produced Frederic Piguet movement, incorporating a rotor embossed with the AG and LW logos. Studded with 28 jewels, the movement offers a 72- hour power reserve and runs at the rate of 28,800 vibrations per hour.

The new Linde Werdelin watch is 888-meter water-resistant, incorporating an automatic helium escape valve found at 9 o’clock. Due to this very valve, the watch is capable of withstanding pressure during the resurface time. The timepiece is accompanied by a black alligator strap, finished with a titanium ardillon buckle.

As Jorn Werdelin, the brand’s managing director and its co-founder, has pointed out, the release of the first complication announces a new chapter in Linde Werdelin’s history. He has also mentioned that the company is honored to further cooperate with Svend Andersen. Besides, it is pleased to start animating its watches by F. Piguet movements.

According to Morten, one of the reasons for endowing the diver’s watch with a moonphase complication was their customers’ desire to practice sports under the full moon. The moonlight provides excellent conditions for various sports activity, including diving.

Issued in a limited edition of just 29 items, the Linde Werdelin Oktopus Moonphase watch will be offered to pre-order from September 2010 or from any LW authorized retailer. The watch is to be presented at BaselWorld 2010.

With its remarkable watches and attachable instruments, Linde Werdelin has shattered the existing limits of the luxury sport’s watches’ world, combining exemplary Swiss watchmaking excellence and progressive Danish design, teamed with avant-garde technology.

The renowned horological company Eberhard & Co surprises the world of watchmaking with its captivating novelty, named Tazio Nuvolari Edition Limitee Grand Prix en Or. The timepiece is to be unveiled at Baselworld 2010.

The Eberhard & Co watch has been encouraged by the famous racing driver Tazio Nuvolari deeply admired by the brand. This timepiece is instantly identifiable thanks to its red gold case, evocative of a vintage dashboard.

The new Eberhard & Co watch represents a perfect marriage of a complicated nature and powerful aesthetic appeal. The brand has succeeded in creating a timekeeping instrument characterized by remarkable clarity, legibility, accuracy and resistance. The watch wins the heart due to the utmost attention to detail.

The Tazio Nuvolari Edition Limitee Grand Prix en Or demonstrates a gold-plated black dial with large sub-dials, a circular-grained flange, a ceramic bezel, outfitted with a tachometer scale. The watch face artfully plays with refined color contrasts: a successful combination of black and red gold is accented with subtle touches of red. The new Eberhard & Co watch has been issued in a limited edition of 123 items.

The heart of the Tazio Nuvolari Edition Limitee Grand Prix en Or watch is represented by a self-winding ETA Valjoux 7750 movement. Its functionality includes hours, minutes and the chronograph function.

The mechanism is housed in a 43 mm case, rendered in 18Kred gold. The black ceramic bezel features a tachometer scale in miles/h engraved in red. The dial is shielded by a sapphire crystal, with internal anti-reflective treatment. The case exhibits a screw-down back with the central part engraved with the autograph of the driver, and the outer part bevelled with circular-grained finishing. The water-resistance of the case is down to 30 meters.

The timepiece boasts an attractive dial, featuring luminous Arabic numerals and luminous hands for perfect legibility. They are kept company by a central red direct-drive seconds hand. The dial is also completed with chronograph hour and minute sub-dials, positioned at 6 and 12 o’clock correspondingly.

The strap of this watch is available on two versions, one of black leather matching the stainless steel case, while the other matching the rose gold model is on dark brown. Seiko is aiming to more than double its number of outlets in India.

Japanese luxury watch brand Seiko is aiming to more than double its amount of retail outlets in India to 250 within two years.

Seiko currently has 123 high-class shops and boutiques in India – which is a “booming” market, according to the Hindu Business Line.

Several designer watch manufacturers have highlighted Asia – and in particular India and China – as the industry’s growth hotspot over the next decade.

Tetsuji Ishimaru, Seiko’s managing director, illustrated the importance of the Indian market by telling the newspaper: “Globally, our sales were affected by about 20 to 30 per cent during the recession but sales in India were picking up during that period.”

Seiko is targeting up to 30 per cent growth in India as it expands its range of stores.

In December, the Japanese firm praised its Premier Collection, saying it was “an inspiration” which took watch refinement to the next level.ADNFCR-2664-ID-19602004-ADNFCR

Panerai Radiomir PAM 00210

Officine Panerai excels at creating impressive wrist watches that have no fear of time passing by because of their timeless designs. The famous model Radomir is definitely a landmark piece of the Officine Panerai brand, the model being introduced for the first time in 1938. The model was designed back then to face extreme conditions related to both diving and night visibility, and its design was extremely masculine, with a case measuring 47 mm in diameter. Over the years, this model has been refined into what we refer today as the new Radomir PAM 00210 Watch, a watch with considerable reduced size and more progressive technical performance.

The case of the new Radomir Watch measures 45 mm in diameter and approaches the same classic look, with its roundly-shaped figure and the simple design features of its dial. The case is crafted from polished steel or 18 karats pink gold, each version matching its bezel, made as well from the same materials, either brushed stainless steel or pink gold. The crown is located traditionally on the lateral side of the case at three o’clock, the designers choosing to maintain the original design of the Panerai watch, without equipping it with the patented protecting system for the crown.

The model Radomir Pam 00210 has a very discreet dial, the only functions it displays are the minute and hour functions. The detailing from the watch is luminescent coated to provide the best legibility at night, or in dark spaces when diving.

The true star-element at the new Radomir PAM 00210 is its technical movement, which although it provides only the traditional functions of hours and minutes, it is highly accurate and very reliable in terms of its resistance. The Panerai OP x Calibre equipping this timepiece guarantees a power reserve of 56 hours, along with 100 meters water resistance. The case is constructed as to offer the best protection of the movement and so the designers have chosen to use a shock absorption system for this watch, and have also chosen the thickest sapphire crystal to cover both the dial and the case back, 1.9 mm thick.

This Radomir PAM 00210 Watch by Officine Panerai is included in the ”Historic” Collection and celebrates the watches manufactures in 1997, under the name of Radomir, a Collection measuring only 60 timepieces.

The strap of the new Officine Panerai Radomir PAM Watch is made of leather and is equipped with a folding clasp made of either steel or 18 carats pink gold. Each version matches perfectly the materials of the case, so the design is quite harmonious.

Officine Panerai has designed collections and collections of watches, but the Radomir Collection still has its well-deserved place both in the heart of the brand and in the hearts of Officine Panerai’s customers worldwide.

Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Grande Tradition Grande Complication Watch

SIHH 2010: Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Grande Tradition Grande Complication Watch
Swiss manufacture Jaeger-LeCoultre continues its string of exceptional accomplishments in the high complication category with a brilliant new Master Control watch bearing the prestigious Grande Tradition banner. This white gold timepiece presents not only a tourbillon and minute repeater–a watchmaking feat in itself–but also brings into play an ingenious rotating star chart with zodiacal functions and indications for sidereal as well as solar time. As an added attraction, the display for sidereal time–a 23 hour, 56-minute, and 4.091 seconds “day” measured by Earth’s rotation relative to the fixed stars–is actually accomplished by the tourbillon cage itself, which slowly orbits the dial in synchrony with this specialized astronomic period.

A close examination of the compelling galactic dial of the Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Grande Tradition Grande Complication watch reveals a wealth of fascinating astronomic information. The stars as seen from the northern hemisphere and the varied constellations blanket the mystical blue dial surface, which is actually a lacquered disc positioned above a lower disc bearing the little rotating sun which indicates solar (24-hour) time. Directly atop the lacquered sky is the slowly orbiting flying tourbillon with its pulsating balance wheel and continually revolving ultra-light titanium cage. The dial rehaut displays the zodiacal signs and the months, enabling the wearer to follow the apparent motions of the constellations through the year.

Impressive as all of this is, the 527-parts which comprise the Jaeger-LeCoultre 945 Caliber movement have yet other surprises in store. The minute repeater mechanism that chimes out the hours, quarter hours, and individual minutes upon request whenever the case slide is activated, utilizes two exclusive innovations which Jaeger-LeCoultre claims offers a real boost to acoustic performance. The first of these is a proprietary “trebuchet hammer” that significantly improves the velocity and force of the striking hammers compared to those in traditional repeaters. The second is a square-profile cathedral gong manufactured from a single piece; the gongs are attached to a thin layer of metal which contacts the sapphire crystal. This construction provides excellent amplification of the already robust chime, all while enabling the house to produce a watch case insulated enough to be water resistant to 50 meters.

The tourbillon escapement of the Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Grande Tradition Grande Complication watch is also most innovative. Rapidly beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour, the watch’s balance wheel bears a hairspring featuring a Breguet terminal curve. Notably, the components of the escapement are produced from silicon, a material requiring no lubrication in the manner of traditional metal components. The use of such advanced escapement materials in no way diminishes Jaeger-LeCoultre’s adherence to traditional methods where movement finishing is concerned; a sapphire crystal exhibition window shows off nickel-silver bridges displaying a rich variety of decorative patterns, steel parts with anglage, and screws with a brilliant rhodium plating. As with other exceptionally complex Jaeger-LeCoultre movements, each JLC 945 Caliber is the responsibility of a single watchmaker to assemble and fine tune to perfection.

Jaeger-LeCoultre is to produce just 75 examples of the Master Grande Tradition Grande Complication watch, each in a 44mm case of 18-karat white gold, with an elegant strap in alligator leather. Like all references in the brand’s Master Control collection, the Grande Complication will undergo the famous 1000 hour in-house test; these comprehensive, grueling trials verify the precision, water resistance, and other performance aspects of the timepiece in a fully-assembled state. Official pricing information has not yet been announced, but a number in the high six figures would be reasonable to expect.
