A brand that has a lot to say in terms of both technical performance and design, Officine Panerai keeps on amazing the world of watch manufacturing with its brilliantly manufactured mechanisms and its innovative designs. Being established in the 1860’s in Italy, the brand is nowadays Swiss owned by the manufacturer Richemont S. A. The standards of this brand are higher than ever and its struggle to achieve the most progressive technical movements has reached its end, as many movements developed by Officine Panerai are in-house movements displaying the most amazing technical features in watch manufacturing. The smartest trends are followed, without forgetting the Officine Panerai’s distinctive features.

A watch deserving our attention and interest is the new Officine Panerai Luminor 1950 10 Days Watch, a watch that definitely presents an alternative to those watches regarded only as wrist accessories, this one being equipped with extremely useful functions. But, before we can talk about its technical performance, a few words are required in order to present its design.

The design of the new Officine Panerai Luminor 1950 10 Days Watch is quite appealing and features a case measuring 44 mm in diameter made of a combination of brushed steel and ceramics. The case is surrounded by a brushed steel bezel or if chosen by the customer, the other version featuring black ceramic. The distinctive protective device of the crown is also present, covering the crown at the 3 o’clock position. This system of protection of the movement was patented by Officine Panerai in 1956.

The dial features the traditional functions of showing the hour, minute and second, along with a second time zone function, making of the watch the perfect instrument for travelers and business men. The second time-zone is shown in a sub-dial located at 9 o’clock, while the power reserve function is indicated above 6 o’clock, with the specification of 10 days. At three o’clock we can find the date function, every detailing on this watch being luminescent coated and contrasting the black ceramic dial. The three Arabic numerals provide a touch of elegant simplicity and add a contemporary appearance to the design of the watch.

The new Officine Panerai Luminor 1950 10 Days Watch comes equipped with an automatic mechanical movement defined as the Panerai Calibre P.2003, esclusively made by Panerai to fit this amazing timepiece. This movement supports the following functions: traditional functions of showing the hour, minute and second, a second time zone, 24 h indicator, a power reserve display and a second reset, not to mention its ability to resist 100 meters deep diving and a 240 hour of power resistance.

The strap accompanying this new Officine Panerai Luminor 1950 10 DaysWatch is made of alligator leather and is available either on black or on dark brown. The strap offers a classy and sophisticated design to the watch, making it equal of its technical excellence.

Pre-SIHH 2010: Panerai Radiomir PAM336 Watch With In-House P.999 Movement
A 42mm Panerai Radiomir watch? Who would have thought? And yet, in times where restraint has begun to make its ascendancy, Officine Panerai brings forth the first images of a timepiece which subtly alters the full-figured landscape of the brand’s historic Radiomir collection. Notably smaller than previous Radiomir watches, the Panerai PAM336 showcases a 42mm case hewn from 18-karat pink gold. This luxurious cushion-shaped form is given a subtle brushed finish which emphasizes the sporty heritage of the model. At the same time, however, the quality of the finishing work and the elegant contrast against the polished bezel will allow this exclusive high-luxury timepiece to serve its owner well when a dressier mode is called for.

Familiar to Paneristi and other lovers of Panerai watches is the distinctive “sandwich” dial, which in this model presents a rich brown color. So named for its tripartite structure, these Panerai dials are composed of two metal layers, between which is a section of luminous material. This material appears clearly and elegantly through numeric cutouts in the upper dial strata; twelve, three, and six o’clock are marked by Arabic numbers, with the other hours being carried out in an elongated index format. The sword-shaped hour and minute hands and the dagger hand for the small seconds are also decorated with luminous material. All of these elements combine to make for a cleanly executed face that is as handsome and classic as it is easy to read in low or nonexistent lighting.

Sure to excite connoisseurs of haute horlogerie, the Panerai Radiomir PAM 336 will house an entirely new manufacture Panerai movement. Designated as the Panerai P.999, this manually wound caliber features Incabloc shock protection and comprises 154 parts and 19 jewels. With a low height of 3.4mm, and a diameter of 12 lignes, the P.999 presents a smaller overall package than that of previous Panerai movements–a specification that ideally suits it to timepieces of smaller diameter and lesser thickness than Panerai has generally been known for. Despite having a single mainspring barrel, power reserve of the P.999 is a comparatively lengthy 60 hours. A sapphire crystal exhibition window in the caseback reveals the decorative elements and mechanical structures of this new Panerai caliber, including an elegant swan neck fine adjustment spring and a screw-adjusted balance beating at the moderate tempo of 21,600 vibrations per hour.

The Panerai Radiomir PAM336 watch with the P.999 manufacture movement will be produced in a numbered edition of 500 pieces. Joined to the Radiomir’s elegant wire case lugs is a strap of hand-sewn alligator leather and a prong buckle in polished pink gold. The conical gold winding crown bears the Officine Panerai insignia; it screws down precisely to ensure that the watch remains water resistant to 100 meters.

Luminor Marina Automatic 44 mm

Luminor Marina Automatic 44 mm and Other Bright Novelties By Panerai

In 2009 Panerai presented many bright novelties and many of them are related to sea. This is quite natural because the brand initially was launched as a manufacturer of Panerai  watches for Italian naval forces.

In recent years the brand concentrates on creation and development of its own movements. The year 2009 was not an exception. All the models presented at SIHH 2009 were equipped with calibers by Panerai.

Luminor Marina Automatic 44mm

This is an automatic watch with a big case (44 mm in diameter). The watch is crafted out of titanium. The timepiece is equipped with a COSC certified movement with anti-shock device and power reserve of 42 hours. Water resistance of this watch is 300 mm. The watch features a titanium bracelet with polished and brushed links. The model is available with a device for bracelet removal and replacement.

Radiomir Tourbillon GMT 48 mm and Luminor 1950 Tourbillon GMT 47 mm

These two novelties have one feature in common – this is Caliber P.2005 with tourbillon. Radiomir Tourbillon GMT 48 mm is made out of rose gold while Luminor 1950 Tourbillon GMT 47 mm is crafted out of titanium. Besides tourbillon, these great watches have such useful function as the second time zone.
Both series come in limited editions. Radiomir Tourbillon GMT 48 mm is released in a limited edition of 100 pieces, while Luminor 1950 Tourbillon GMT 47 mm is available in a limited edition of 150 pieces.

Every year Panerai offers its special series. In this year the Italian company presented the Luminor 1950 Regatta Rattrapante 44 mm DLC split-chronograph dedicated to Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge regatta that is sponsored by Panerai. The  Panerai watch is equipped with OP XVIII movement entirely developed and manufactured by Panerai. The watch has a 44 mm case that is made out of stainless steel with black DLC coating.
The stainless steel case back has the engraving Classic Yachts Challenge 2009. The series comes in a limited edition of 500 pieces.

Radiomir Egiziano & Giorni

This is one of the brightest 2009 models. This watch is designed for those who like big watches. The timepiece measures 60 mm in diameter. The timepiece comes in a series of 300 pieces. Now Panerai has to find 300 giants who would like to wear this treasure on their wrists.

Panerai Radiomir P.999 Pink Gold

The Radiomir P.999 42 mm Pink Gold combines the unmistakable design of an icon in high-end, sport watches with the new mechanical movement, the P.999, designed and produced at the Neuchâtel manufacture.

With a diameter of 12 lignes and a thickness of only 3.4 millimetres, the new hand-wound P.999 movement features 19 jewels, a 60-hour power reserve and a balance wheel oscillating at 21,600 alternations/hour. Two sophisticated details enhance the P.999 movement set in the new Radiomir in pink gold. The workings are regulated by a so-called ‘swan’s neck’ device allowing for micrometrical adjustment of the active length of the spring. Furthermore, each single movement is millesimised.

The case in pink gold is 42 mm in diameter, slightly smaller than the historic, first Radiomir watches. The thickness has also been reduced thanks to the development of the new movement. The result is a thinner, lighter watch, perfect for the most elegant of situations while not betraying the watch’s military origins and sporting character. All of this thanks to the pink gold of the case that is satin-finished, a detail that tones down the sparkle of the precious metal making it more understated and refined.

The small polished bezel, on the other hand, creates a pleasing contrast effect. The warm feel of the satinfinished gold also emphasizes the dial with its dark brown colour rather than the black of the traditional models, a colour tone enhanced by the anti-scratch and anti-glare sapphire crystal.

The layout of the dial is still the classic one and represents another of the characteristic features of Panerai watches. The exceptional legibility in the dark is in fact achieved through a ‘sandwich’ structure with the luminescent material placed between two metal layers, the top one perforated in correspondence with the numerals and indexes.

Also luminescent and plated in pink gold, to complement the case, are the index-shaped hands and perpetually-moving small seconds hand in the auxiliary dial at 9 o’clock. The watch, with wire lugs that are easy to remove when substituting the strap and water-proof up to a depth of 100 metres, features the classic screw-down, truncated-cone crown ensuring maximum water-tightness.

Numbered and produced in an edition of 500 pieces, the Radiomir P.999 42 MM Pink Gold (PAM00336) is part of the Historic Collection and is completed with a dark brown alligator strap with a pink gold pin buckle.

Officine Panerai presents the P.999, a new hand-wound mechanical movement – like the very first Panerai watches – entirely designed, developed and produced at the Neuchâtel manufacture.

The P.999 is a modern mechanical movement combining reliability, robustness and precision and features the special structure with wide separated bridges that characterises all the other Officine Panerai manufacture calibres.

With a 12 ligne diameter, equal to 27.4 mm, and a thickness of 3.4 mm the P.999 calibre is slightly smaller than the other Officine Panerai calibres making it ideal for models which are smaller, both in diameter and in thickness, than the historical watches. With 19 jewels, a single barrel providing a 60-hour power reserve and small seconds at 9 o’clock, the new calibre is made up of 154 components and beats time at a frequency of 3 Hz: this means that its balance wheel makes 21,600 alternations/ hour. Equipped with adjusting screws, the balance wheel is protected by an Incabloc® antishock device while the regulating system has a swan’s neck spring.

Thanks to the P.999 calibre, which will be used in some of the Historic Collection models, Officine Panerai further enriches its range of in-house movements and confirms its role as that Workshop of ideas which, as well as safeguarding its own historical heritage, is able to interpret the present while looking to the future.
